Team News Ahead Of The Dragons Derby Opener As Wales Pair Are Ruled Out

Team news ahead of the Dragons' derby opener as Wales pair are ruled out

Dan Biggar and Josh Navidi will miss the Dragons' United Rugby Championship opener against the Scarlets next weekend.

Wales fly-half Biggar and flanker Navidi are both recovering from injuries sustained in Wales' win over South Africa 'A' last weekend.

Biggar, who has been struggling with a shoulder problem, is expected to be out for around three weeks.

Navidi is also expected to miss the Scarlets clash but could be fit for the Dragons' second game of the season against Benetton.

The Dragons have also confirmed that prop Leon Brown and lock Joe Davies are doubts for the clash with the Scarlets.

Brown is struggling with a back injury, while Davies has a hamstring problem.

The Dragons will be hoping to get their URC campaign off to a winning start against the Scarlets, who they have not beaten in the league since 2018.

Wales' two most capped players, Alun Wyn Jones and Jonathan Davies, will also miss the match due to injuries.

Jones is recovering from ankle surgery, while Davies is struggling with a knee problem.

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac has named a 35-man squad for the autumn internationals, but Jones and Davies are not included.

The Dragons will be without a number of key players for their URC opener against the Scarlets, but they will be hoping that they can still get their campaign off to a winning start.

The Dragons have not won a match in the URC since February, and they will be hoping to break that run against the Scarlets.

The Scarlets have won two of their last three matches in the URC, and they will be confident of victory against the Dragons.

The match is scheduled to take place at Rodney Parade on Saturday, September 17th.
