International Democracy Day: Over 1 Lakh People to Form Human Chain in Udupi District – DC Vidya Kumari

Udupi, August 27: As part of International Democracy Day, Udupi Deputy Commissioner M. Kurma Rao has called upon people from all walks of life to join hands to strengthen democratic values.

Udupi, Aug 27: Over one lakh people are expected to form a human chain in Udupi district on September 15 as part of International Democracy Day celebrations.

The human chain will be formed from Kaup to Padubidri, covering a distance of 22 km. The event is being organized by the district administration in collaboration with various organizations.

Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesha has said that the human chain will be a symbol of unity and strength of democracy. He has appealed to people from all walks of life to participate in the event.

The human chain will be formed at 10 am on September 15. People are requested to gather at the designated points from 9 am onwards.

The event will be flagged off by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

International Democracy Day is observed on September 15 every year to promote and strengthen democratic values around the world.

The day was first celebrated in 2007 by the United Nations General Assembly.

The theme for this year’s International Democracy Day is “Democracy: The Key to Sustainable Peace and Development”.

The Udupi district administration has been organizing various events to mark International Democracy Day for the past few years.

Last year, the district administration organized a human chain of over 50,000 people.

The human chain is expected to be even bigger this year as the district administration is making all efforts to ensure the success of the event.
