Alligators Close Polk Street on Tybee Island
What Happened?
On Tuesday, August 9, 2023, two alligators were spotted on Polk Street, a busy road on Tybee Island, Georgia. The sighting caused the road to be closed for several hours while the alligators were removed.
Details of the Incident
The first alligator was spotted by a passerby at around 10:00 AM. The animal was approximately 6 feet long and was crossing the street. The second alligator, which was slightly smaller, was spotted about an hour later.
Police and animal control officers responded to the scene and closed Polk Street between Butler Avenue and Tybrisa Street. The alligators were eventually captured and relocated to a nearby marsh.
