Denny Hamlin Secures First Coca-Cola 600 Victory

Historic Rain Shortens NASCAR's Longest Race

NASCAR's longest race, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, concluded prematurely on Sunday night due to heavy rainfall. With just over 100 laps remaining, the race was red-flagged and ultimately called off, marking the fourth time in the event's history that rain has prevented its completion.

Ryan Blaney of Team Penske emerged victorious, inheriting the lead from Denny Hamlin, who had dominated the race until the final caution. Blaney's triumph comes one day after Josef Newgarden of Team Penske won the Indianapolis 500, giving the organization a historic double victory in two of the most prestigious races in motorsports.

Denny Hamlin, who has now won 48 career Cup races, earned his first Coca-Cola 600 victory in Sunday's abbreviated event. Hamlin led a race-high 252 laps and was poised to take the checkered flag before the rain intervened.

The Coca-Cola 600 marks the 126th Cup race hosted by Charlotte Motor Speedway. Despite the weather-shortened race, Blaney's victory and Hamlin's first Coca-Cola 600 win made for a memorable and historic night for NASCAR.
