Cronulla Sharks prop Andrew Fifita is out of intensive care and drawing inspiration from injured teammate Wade Graham as he continues his recovery from a throat injury.

Fifita was placed in an induced coma after suffering a serious throat injury in the Sharks' loss to the Wests Tigers last Sunday.

The 31-year-old underwent surgery on Monday and was moved out of intensive care on Wednesday.

Fifita is now in a stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Sharks prop said he was "grateful to be alive" and was drawing inspiration from Graham, who is recovering from a serious knee injury.

"I'm just so grateful to be alive," Fifita said.

"I've been through a lot in my life, but this is the scariest thing I've ever been through.

"I'm just taking it one day at a time and drawing inspiration from Wade.

"He's a true warrior and he's shown me that anything is possible if you have the right mindset.

"I'm determined to come back from this stronger than ever and help the Sharks win a premiership.
